Circumcision is essential in Africa

Cervical cancer is one of the common diseases throughout the world and many women die from it each year. In Uganda, more than a quarter million women die from cervical cancer. The disease caused due to human papillomavirus (HPV), where some specific strains of the virus causes it to happen. Vaccines like Gardasil and Cervarix were found to be effective against the cancer.

Studies have also revealed that circumcision in men also reduce cases of cervical cancer in women, as men undergoing circumcision are less likely to transmit HPV causing cervical cancer to women during sexual intercourse.

In United States, 55 to 65 percent of new born boys are circumcised, but the rate differs from one region to another within the country. This procedure is extensively followed in Canada, United States and the Middle East, when compared to Africa, Asia, Central America, South America and the Europe.

Steps should be taken to increase practice of circumcision in Africa, as this would significantly reduce one of the deadly sexual transmitted diseases (STD) in Africa. Even if one tests positive for cervical cancer, test and treatment should be carried out in order to recover from the disease soon. Pap smear is the common test to check for presence of cancerous cells in the cervix of women.

Cervical cancer vaccines are mostly effective in reducing the STD, but circumcision in men would further reduce chances of contracting the disease. This way it would be helpful in eradicating the deadly disease from almost every corners of the world. 

HPV Vaccine

HPV vaccines are used to prevent the human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes cervical cancer in millions of women, but the use of these vaccines have been limited. Researchers claim the HPV vaccines are always an emotional subject that can confuse parents of the teenagers, but researchers are confused about unpopularity factor of the vaccines.

This year about 493,000 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer, and 274,000 are expected to die from it. The situation is alarming but tendency of the people not to go for the vaccines is more surprising.

Gardasil vaccine is being used for cervical cancer treatment, and United States Food and Drug Administration even approved it to be used for girls and women aged between 9 and 26, but it was found that most people undergoing vaccines does not complete the doses, and some even don’t care about taking it.

Some view, that increasing price of the vaccine may be one factor for limited use, as each of these costs $360 to $600. Other factors like irregularity of the physicians and attitude of parents towards the vaccines are also responsible for low use. Still, parents and their children require more knowledge and awareness about the benefits of these vaccines.

Young girls and women often don’t take the HPV seriously, for they think the virus is not any way linked to cervical cancer. Its’ vital parents are made to think about the future health of their wards, and convince them to encourage their children to know more about the disease and its side effects. 

Circumcision in Men May Reduce Cervical Cancer

Male circumcision may prevent transmission of HPV causing cervical cancer, from men to women during sexual intercourse. But circumcision may not be ideal for full protection, as usage of contraceptive like condoms are essential to prevent cervical cancer.

Specific strains of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is said to cause cervical cancer in women. Researches reveal that circumcision reduces risk of contracting the disease to considerable extent in men.

A study was conducted, in which researchers took data from two clinics in Uganda from HIV negative men and HIV negative women. The HPV infection was found to be 23 percent lower in women having circumcision partners as compared to other normal partners.

After the study, it was quite evident that this method is showing positive results in prevention of cervical cancer in women. Cervical cancer is one of the vital forms of cancer that is said to cause many deaths among women, and specific prevention is essential to reduce the percent of people suffering from it. Women are advised to go for Pap smear test in order to detect presence of HPV in the cervix. Treatment is the ultimately solution for those who test positive, and doctors often prescribe cervical cancer vaccines like Gardasil and Cervarix to heal the problem.

Cervical Cancer Rates Rise in County

Cervical cancer is considered to be curable, but according to the latest report, the number of cases in Southern California is higher when compared to National average in United States. In United States, the cervical cancer rate is 8.1 per 100,000 people, where as in Los Angeles County it stands at 10 per 100,000 people.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in women, and ranks 13^th among cancer deaths in the U.S. Women in Los Angeles County are more concerned about their threat from cervical cancer than other diseases. The high rate can be attributed to fact that, cervical cancer screening has not attained ninety percent target, and many women are still devoid of getting the Pap smear test that is essential to detect presence of cancerous cells in the cervix region. Screening test are significantly less among low income group women and those who are less educated.  

Screening test for cervical cancer for women should be done on regular basis, to identify the human papillomavirus (HPV) which is said to be main reason for the disease. Treatment should be done at perfect time to recover from the disease otherwise it can lead to death. Sexually active women are more prone to these diseases as well as other sexual transmitted disease (STD). Some popular cervical cancer vaccinations are Gardasil and Cervarix. 

A New Health Campaign for Cervical Cancer

A new health campaign called ‘Mission Possible’ is started in Vermont to provide free cervical cancer screening test and HPV vaccinations to boys and girls, for a period of six months. Given the rise of cervical cancer cases throughout the world, there is more need of such healthcare programmes that would benefit common people. These steps are vital to aware more people about the deadly disease.

The HPV vaccine has been very effective in preventing cervical cancer cases in 70 percent of the population. The Health Department buys these vaccines at $360 and then distributes it free to the providers.

Cervical cancer can be deadly, but if screening and treatment is done early, it can be fully cured.  The HPV vaccine acts against specific strains of the HPV (Human papilloma virus) causing cervical cancer. Cervical cancer screening test encompasses detection of cancerous cells in the cervix. Common test are Pap smear test and the new cytology test. If tested positive, one must undergo immediate treatment to prevent further progression of the disease.

Through this immunization programme, health department provides vaccines in age group 9 to 26. The vaccine is given to girls aged 12 and above. It is recommended that women, who usually have high chance of suffering from cervical cancer, should undergo screening on regular basis.   

There is a significant rise in cervical cancer cases in U.S with more women dying from it, than any other form of cancer. In recent years other similar non-profit based organizations like ‘Ground for Health’ in Vermont also provides cervical cancer screening and treatment, and people benefit lot from it. 

Cervical Cancer Jab May Reduce Smear Test

Girls having cervical cancer jab need cervical cancer screening twice in their lifetime. This is good news with respect to reduction of cervical cancer. According to experts several cervical cancer vaccines used for treatment may ultimately reduce the occurrence of cervical cancer in humans. The current smear test, which is popular among women for cervical cancer screening is soon to be replaced by HPV test. Earlier pap smear test is done every three or five years, but the new HPV test is more effective in detecting cancerous cells than pap. Young girls aged 12 or 13 having jab need cervical cancer testing at the age of 30 to 45.

Cervical cancer vaccines are used to protect the body against key strains of human papilloma virus (HPV) known to cause most of the cervical cancer cases. HPV test is capable of identifying 13 strains responsible for all cervical cancer cases. The virus gradually spreads into the body and it may take as long as 10 years for cancer to develop. In UK, HPV testing is still under consideration but could be used nationally by 2015. Expert belief that HPV testing would reduce the amount of cervical cancer cases in UK.

Quick Health Screening test for Alzheimer's

Scientists are researching to develop a 30 second screening test for Alzheimer’s disease, which would prove beneficial in identifying cause before the disease show any symptoms.



This type of health screening is specifically developed for people in 40s, which prevent people from the disease. The test is simple so that it would be available anywhere, just as people avail blood pressure check. The objective of the test is to identify those areas of brain which are damaged and are at an increased risk of developing Alzheimer disease in future. Thus through this screening, early detection is possible and hence prevention of the disease at right time. People who are prone to dementia could easily prevent the disease.



Currently tests are based on brain scanning and memory tests, but often detection is too late for prevention. The new research has found a unique way to scan the brain using computer programs where patient reaction times are recorded. Researchers studied the brain of healthy men and women aged 44 to 48 for search of tiny lesions in the brain. The lesions are similar to those that are found after post mortem of Alzheimer patient. Those with small lesions in the brain had both slow and fast reaction times compared to healthy brains which showed more consistent responses.



The health screening test for Alzheimer disease is a surefire way of preventing and reducing the disease to large extent. People with erratic symptoms can easily move to the hospital or clinic for test and start treatment as necessary.
